Typically, when we think about staying hydrated, our first thought is, “I need to drink more water!” but these elements are found in common real foods within our cafes, which means that eating seasonal Summer fruits and vegetables can help hydrate and nourish you throughout the day.

The antioxidant characteristics of this tasty summer fruit are thought to be beneficial in reducing free radicals, which are molecules that can be caused by stress, air pollution, smoking and other environmental exposures. The research around the nutrients found in watermelon, such as lycopene, citrulline, and cucurbitacin E shows that they may have anticancer properties, help with heart health, reduce inflammation, prevent macular degeneration, improve digestion and help relieve muscle soreness. Furthermore, its high-water content means it is low in calories and may help with weight management, in addition to keeping you feeling fuller longer.

To choose a watermelon, look for a firm, symmetrical melon that feels heavy for its size. The spot on the underside should be yellow, which indicates that it was allowed to ripen on the vine. Watermelon is typically sliced and eaten fresh, but it can also be added to a smoothie, used in a salad, or lightly grilled.
